JAGODINA - SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT
"I traveled the whole world, like Jagodina, I didn't find it anywhere."
This famous sentence was uttered by "the always famous Jagodinac, Jovanca Micic, merchant and world traveler", the hero of one of the comedies of the famous Branislav Nusic, when he returned to Jagodina after a long journey around the world. And the people of Jagodina still say it today when they return to their hometown.
And really, is there a fascination with this small Serbian town?
When you arrive in this city, from the bus station which is relatively close to the center, you will be enchanted. And not only with the city, but in the first place with its cleanliness which is noticeable at every step, but also with the kindness of the people of Jagodina who are in Serbian called real „domaćini“ - really great hosts.
And those people from Jagodina who live and work in this city have made sure to give their town numerous contents, facilities and manifestations which, first of all, enrich their stay and leave the impressions they carry in their hearts.
Jagodina in a few words, just to create a picture
Jagodina is located on the river Belica in central Pomoravlje, which, in a narrower sense, should mean the Paracin-Jagodina valley, ie a narrow plain belt on both sides of the Velika Morava - from the Stalac gorge in the south to the Bagrdan strait in the north. In the very center of the city, immediately after the construction of the Railway Station, a favorite promenade of all generations, Square, was formed. As such, it is unavoidable on numerous Jagodina postcards. At the very center, there is a monument to our fighters in the First World and Balkan Wars, surrounded by greenery and colorful flowers, planted by Cilek, a gardener of Czech nationality who worked in the Jagodina Brewery. On the very outskirts of the city, there is also the Russian Cemetery, where a monument to the Red Army soldiers who defended Jagodina and Serbia from fascist forces was erected.
Symbols of Jagodina
Ćuran has been a symbol of this city since time immemorial. It is also interesting how this came about. There was a slaughterhouse near the railway, from where a turkey escaped. Unfortunately, she was run over by a train passing by, and only the nickname for the people of Jagodina remained - no one in Jagodina is angry when called that way, even today.
Of course, these people from Jagodina created numerous modern symbols of their city.
Certainly, what we all know about this city is the famous Aqua Park, and it is almost certain that this paradise on earth will fascinate you. It has six swimming pools for different ages and categories, with numerous attractions. During the season, thousands of visitors from the near and far surroundings, especially young people, are gained there.
In the immediate vicinity of the Aqua Park is the far-famed Museum of Wax Figures. We say it is widely known, since it is one of the few museums of its kind in the whole of Europe. Although, unfortunately, relatively small, hard-working people from Jagodina do everything to enrich the collection of wax figures from year to year. Now there are important historical figures such as Patriarch Pavle, Nikola Tesla, Desanka Maksimovic, Zoran Djindjic, but also Vuk Bojovic, Vlado Divac, Sasa Djordjevic, Vladimir Putin, Novak Djokovic and many others.
In this tourist-recreational complex enriched with selected vegetation, a great attention is drawn to the artificial waterfall located right in the park. In the complex itself, there is also a zoo.
Excursion site Đurđevo brdo is in the immediate vicinity of all the above attractions of Jagodina, and from its top there is a magnificent view of the city and its surroundings. It is interesting that at the very top of Đurđevo brdo there is an extremely nicely decorated restaurant, which is well known to the locals for a great time.
You will admit, there are not many cities that can boast of this.
Some of the numerous manifestations in Jagodina The city is also known for one of the largest theater festivals in Serbia, "Days of Comedy", which has been traditionally held since 1971. The festival celebrates the best theater performances of this genre, and awards prizes for the best in all categories. Every year, the "Golden Turkey" is awarded, an award for lifetime achievement and contribution to acting, and among the winners are Nikola Simić, Petar Kralj, Gorica Popović, Svetlana Bojković, Seka Sablić and other greats. The people of Jagodina nurture and encourage the creativity of young people. There is a festival of children's and youth performances "DOPS", which also enjoys a reputation. The festival of classical music "Music Autumn", as well as the folklore manifestation "Meetings of the Village" also attract a lot of attention. Jagodina can also boast of its theater, which has been performing with its troupe for almost 70 years, both in the city and throughout Serbia.
And for refreshment - Jagodina beer
The legendary "Jagodina beer" has been made in the famous Jagodina brewery for 150 years. The man with the mustache and the nail on the packaging really existed. He was photographed by the brewery workers, and he then had the opportunity to refresh himself everywhere for free with his favorite drink.
Of course, refresh yourself too!
