SAINT MRATO
Saint Mrata, known as Saint Mratia or Saint Martyr Mrtija, is commemorated on November 24. St. Mrata is popularly known as the patron saint of wolves, because it is believed that from that day wolves begin to attack livestock and harlots.
There is also a belief that on this day "Saint Mrata releases the wolves", which is why the householders try not to do hard work in order to protect their livestock. This day is the beginning of the winter holidays in the Serbian folk calendar, and is associated with the arrival of winter and frost.
