Saint Arsenije I Sremac was the second Serbian archbishop, from 1233 to 1263.

It is stated that he is of origin "from the Srem region". However, it should be borne in mind that in the 13th and 14th centuries, the area of today's Mačva and the Kolubara basin were called Srem.

He became a monk in his youth and when he heard about the activities of Saint Sava, he went to him in Žiča. Saint Sava soon appointed him abbot of Žiča.

Arsenius was elected archbishop by the will of his predecessor Saint Sava, who abdicated in 1233 before his second departure for Jerusalem.

During his administration in 1253, the seat of the archbishopric was transferred from the Žiče monastery to the Peć patriarchate monastery.

The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates him as a saint on October 28 according to the church, that is. November 10 according to the civil calendar. The Serbian church in Zeta, the principality and kingdom of Montenegro, as it is today, has always celebrated him together with Saint Sava.
