Nikola Tesla had an impressive list of achievements, and early biographers characterized him as an ascetic, introverted and obsessed. More modern biographers have somewhat corrected this gloomy assessment, taking into account the many social connections he made in the wake of his extravagant receptions at the Manhattan laboratory. I believe that Tesla and my father shared the same sense of humor, acquired in early childhood, maintained throughout life and adapted to changing circumstances, which should never be interpreted as silly. Tesla's friendship with Samuel Clemens, alias Mark Twain, showed both the lighter and darker side of such humor. The lack of business acumen was more a reflection of being brought up in a priest's family than recklessness with money. This trait is closely related to altruism and the desire to serve humanity instead of accumulating wealth, as the Christian teaching tells us.
