THE VIRGIN OF THREE HANDS

The Holy Theotokos is a miracle-working icon known for the third hand shown on the icon, which symbolizes the healing miracle of St. John Damascene. According to tradition, John was unjustly accused and punished by cutting off his right hand, but he prayed to the Virgin Mary, who miraculously healed his hand. As a sign of gratitude, John added a silver hand to the icon, which became known as the Trinity.

Today, the icon is kept in the Hilandar Monastery on Mount Athos, where it is believed to perform many miracles, providing healing and comfort to those who pray to it with faith. The Trinity is deeply revered among Orthodox Christians, and her feast day is celebrated on July 25.
