ICON OF THE WHITE ANGEL

The icon of the White Angel is one of the most famous frescoes of Serbian Orthodoxy, located in the Mileševa Monastery, which was built in the 13th century. The fresco shows the archangel Gabriel, sitting on Christ's tomb, and announcing the news of Christ's resurrection. The White Angel is characterized by a calm expression and refinement of lines, which makes this fresco one of the masterpieces of Byzantine art.

The icon is particularly famous for its symbolism, representing the victory of life over death and the resurrection of Christ. This fresco has become internationally recognizable, and the interesting thing is that it was used as one of the first symbols of peace during the broadcasting of signals from Yugoslavia into space during the 1960s.

Believers perceive the White Angel as a symbol of spiritual comfort and hope for resurrection.
